Travel with the Wheelchair Foundation |
There is nothing more rewarding than helping someone into a wheelchair for the
first time in their life. It’s difficult for me to describe the feelings I get
when I pick up a child and place them in the wheelchair and they are smiling and
crying at the same time. Often they will grab on to me and they won’t let go.
Most of the time they are speaking a different language, but the appreciation
and love is obvious when I look into their eyes. I’ve embraced thousands of
recipients from all parts of world and from all walks of life, but the feeling
of pure joy is the same whether in the bush of a remote African village or on
the dusty roads in the pueblos of Mexico.
I'd like to invite you to experience this for yourself. Our travel program enables you to participate in wheelchair distributions around the world. At this time, we do not have any distributions scheduled for donors to attend unless you donate funds for an entire container of wheelchairs or team up with someone or a group to donate a full container. Those donors who raise at least $21,000 (which is the amount needed for a container of 280 wheelchairs) will be allowed to travel and participate in the distribution of those wheelchairs. Individual donors donating less than $21,000 will not be able to participate. However, if you donate a significant amount, but still less than $21,000, we may be able to join funds with another donor or group, allowing us to order a container, in which case you could participate in the distribution of the wheelchairs, along with the other donor. |
